Obituary of Betty Emerson
Betty Jo Emerson, 92, went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. She was born in Pulaski, IL, to Carl and Minnie Sullivan, who preceded her in death.
Betty married Barney Emerson on November 23, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. She was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Marion, where she served as a greeter and a Vacation Bible School instructor. Betty retired in 1987 from RCA after 33 years of employment. She was an Engineering Technician at the Marion plant and also provided support in the “start-up” phase for the assembly plant in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Betty was an active member of the Marion Women’s Department Club, the YMCA, and Delta Chi Sigma Sorority. She loved going to her children’s and grandchildren’s functions and also loved to travel.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Barney Emerson; children, John (Brenda) Emerson (Elkhart) and Linda (NL) Pennington (Marion); grandchildren, Valerie Emerson (Elkhart), Sam (Laura) Martin (Granger), Shane (Amy) Beal, Tony Pennington, and Ric (Angela) Pennington (all from Marion); great-grandchildren, Elijah, Seth, and Avery Beal, Chris Pennington (all from North Carolina), Cameron (Sarah) Pennington (Washington, D.C.), and Kynan (Barb) Pennington (Marion), Alexa Roemke (Indianapolis), Mattias (Zoe) Roemke (Marion), and Libby, Ella, and Charlotte Martin (all from Granger); 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, John (Pat) Sullivan (White Pigeon, MI); and 6 nieces and nephews.
Betty was also preceded in death by a brother, Aubrey Sullivan; sister, Mary Roselee Ervin; and grandson, Jeffery Beal.
The family will have a memorial visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, Betty’s memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with the Reverend William C. Lahrman presiding. Burial will take place at a later date at Grant Memorial Park.
