Obituary of John Barlow, Jr.

John Barlow, Jr., 75, from Marion, passed away in his home at 5:43 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019.  He was born in Yeoman, Indiana, to the late John and Freda (Goslee) Barlow, Sr., on July 19, 1943.

John was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Monticello.  He pursued his love for electronics by taking classes online with Purdue University, eventually graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electronics.  John served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England, where he met his future wife, Sandy Huddleston.  They were later married on February 14, 1964.  While in the service, he worked as an airplane mechanic.

Following his military service, John was an applications engineer at CVS Systems in Marion.  He retired after 20 years.  He was a member and volunteer at American Legion Post 10 in Marion.  John also attended Hanfield UMC.

John enjoyed watching NASCAR, and his favorite driver was always the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr..  He will be remembered for how much he loved to help others, for his giving and caring spirit, and one who loved life and loved spending time with his family and friends.

He will be missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandy; children: John (Joyce) Barlow, III, Knox; Kimberly (Brett) Barlow, Palmetto, FL; and Tammy (Marty) Barlow-Lappin, North Liberty; grandchildren, Joshua Barlow, Jeana (Tyler) Berger, MaKayla (Travis) Brown, and Brandin (Katie) McVey; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Kellen, Jozzlyn, and MaKenzi; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Davis.

A committal service with military honors will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Marion National Cemetery.
